Guys, I took my van to get an MOT at a new garage that my brother recommended, when I arrived I was greated with a few nicely modded Mitsubishi's and an SJ When I went inside the garage I was even more surprised to see 2 huge dragsters that he is building for his customers along with several american muscle cars As I was waiting for him to finish I was admiring his tyres on his Mitsubishi (massive MT's), we got talking about 4x4's and I told him about my little LJ and he said......... "Ahh, I remember those from years back, we used to whip out the engine and gearbox and put in a Pinto engine and box and mod the props" When you looked around at some of the work he was doing he clearly knew his stuff..............BUT, I doubt he's seen and done some of the stuff you guys have done considering you specialise in Suzuki's. Does this sound right guys or is the best swap still a Vit engine? Thanks in advance, Regards Tony

hi well i can tell you to fit a pinto engine and box is no go the engine wont last 5 mins unless you baffle the sump and the gear stick would end up in between your front seats , i have looked into it but you would have mutilate your lj to get it in really not worth it m8

My pal has an sj with a pinto, good fun toy. However it tends to break something every other time he goes out, just as well he can mend it himself. But the biggest benefit in the day was the easy of getting a pinto lump, 1986 is the last time I can think of a car with this engine. So conclusion for me would be (1) the pinto is two old hat (2) conversions are always nicer if you can stick to same (make) (3)adul says know and from what I can make out that's the bottom line

Thanks a lot Leigh Its so frustrating when you have little knowledge, i'm ok with really really basic jobs but the technical, welding, engine, gearbox etc etc is beyond me ...............If only it was made out of wood then i'd be ok! I'm thinking of buying some seats out of a Smart car, I was checking on the LJ10 site and they seemed to fit quite nice, already wasted £350 on new seats that dont fit Any views on Cooper SST's over BFG MT's, both seem to have good side wall lugs? Sorry for all the noob questions, but as me old Dad always said, if you dont ask you dont get Regards Tony
